Social Security & Wall Street?

Can you imagine where we would be had Congress and the President allowed Wall Street to get its greedy hands on Social Security?

Remember way back in 2000, when all we heard and read about was Social Security going bust? And what was the solution _ allow Wall Street to invest the money for higher returns.

A great number of people were sold on the idea and wanted it to happen. People who knew nothing about investing were ready to take the plunge and have their monies invested in stocks and other risky investments.

Where would they be now if this had happened? Out of luck and without retirement money. Greed!

It always pays to look before you leap. Know exactly what you are getting into before going forward. Wall Street is not a place for the young at heart. It can be ruthless and without mercy.

While our retirement system seems old and stale, it does work and allows us to take care of our elderly unlike other countries. So before we criticize and make aggressive unrealistic changes, perhaps appreciating what is there and then moving to change it would be best.

Turning over your money to a bunch of greedy investors, who already have a safety net, is plain insanity.

"ENOUGH! No More Pigs In Lipstick!"

I have heard of the expression "when pigs fly" but pigs in lipstick?

Allow me to give my two cents. First off, I don't think Barack Obama was referring to Sarah Palin as a "pig in lipstick". Secondly, I don't think he is trying to educate young children about sex. Thirdly, I don't think John McCain was implying that his campaign has gone nasty because Obama will not agree to a series of town hall meetings.

I do think, however, this is a tough campaign and only the fittest will survive. Obama and camp thought this race would be a slam dunk for Obama, and I thought the same, before Sarah Palin happened. Now team Obama is running around scratching their heads on the best way to tackle the McCain momentum.

May I suggest that they first realize Sarah Palin isn't the opponent. She is only a VP. Yes, perhaps, a heart beat away from the Presidency, but so is Joe Biden. Secondly, I admonish Obama to choose his words carefully. He has been good at this from day one. However, there was a lapse when he made the colloquial comment about "pigs and lipstick". Which at this point much to do about nothing but has turned into something.

Let's all get back on message and deal with the real issues of restoring America to her greatness!

"Wall Street's Critical List"

Critical List on Wall Street
Countrywide 1969 -2008; Bear Stearns 1923- 2008; Merrill Lynch 1914 – 2008; FannieMae 1938- resuscitated; FreddieMac 1970 – resuscitated; Lehman Bros 1850 – life support; AIG: 1919 – resuscitated; WaMu on life support; Citigroup – ailing; Wachovia – ailing

Companies created by simple men of honor who worked long hard hours to build solid companies with integrity. Years and years of hard work sweat and blood poured into the coffers of these venerable institutions with solid reputations and trust of its clientele. And with in a matter of seconds of greed and avarice it is all washed away.

What in the hell happened? Who left the barn door open and the stock unattended? What took years to build has ended because of greed and lack of corporate governance. Most of these companies were headed by the brightest of the bright: a stock of excellent pedigree including Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Wharton. These good ole’ boys were suppose to know and see all, but as they say the smarter they are the harder they fall.

It is easy to blame the Democrats and the Republicans, but the true blame is at the foot of corporate America and its “laissez faire” ideology.

Corporate America wants the ability to run amuck until they start bleeding and then they expect the Federal Government to come in a bail them out. All the while their CEO’s are safe landing with golden parachutes in green pastures. Who’s left with their pants down? The loyal customer and tax payers are left on the hook and without a parachute.

Take away the golden severance package and other perks and see if there is a difference. The rule should be pay for performance. No performance no pay and certainly no golden parachute to fly away in.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Wall Street had been allowed to invest the money in the Social Security trust fund?

"The Last Laugh For Bubba"

On a bright Thursday afternoon, last week in September, Barack Obama the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party made his way uptown to Harlem. There he met with his formal rival Hillary Clinton’s husband.
Make no mistake this wasn’t any ordinary meeting. Obama was meeting with the man who was the last Democratic President of the last century. In fact his meeting was with the last living most popular president either party _ President William Jefferson Clinton, who by all accounts still knows a thing or two, contrary to what the media writes, about winning the White House. He served two terms and remains popular to this day.

During the recent Democratic Convention, Bill Clinton and his wife helped to ignite the Democrats. They both give speeches proving their unequivocal support for Barack Obama. By all accounts, Bill Clinton’s speech really made the case why Obama should be president.

But this love fest between the two men hasn’t always been so "lovey dovey." After all, it was only a few months passed that Bill Clinton was accused of playing the race card, when he compared Obama’s South Carolina win to that of Jesse Jackson’s some years ago. He also allegedly said Barack becoming president was a fantasy. On top of that, the left wing media and pundits made the case that Barack Obama didn’t need the old school Clintons to win the White House. And Obama the newbie that he is, believed them.

Man didn’t Obama judge that wrong! What other reason would he have gone to Harlem, smiling and grinning? He certainly wasn’t there to court the African American vote. He already has that.

Instead, he was there for all to see him kiss the pinky finger of that last great Democrat _ William Jefferson Clinton. This was a gesture to mend wounds created from the brutal primary race and to enlist the advice of a man he thought he didn’t need.

Oh my Bubba must be laughing his head off right about now.

“It Don’t Mean A Thing If He Ain’t Got that Swing”

Well make no doubt about it, John McCain has found his swing.

Right up to the last night of the Democratic election some weeks ago, all considered McCain a goner. He seemed old, washed up, boring and without a pray. But then Sarah Palin happened. Sure it was probably a gamble on his part. He wanted his good friend Joe Lieberman but was advised against it. So being the maverick that he is, he rolled the dice and hit the lucky seven. It’s truly amazing what a young woman will do for the ego of an older man.

Since putting Palin on the ticket, a few weeks ago, McCain’s usual slumped over meandering walk has changed. He has pep in his step. He walks with a degree of invincibility with his chest stuck out, all the while wearing a smile larger than the Grand Canyon. Looking at McCain you would think he is a lot younger than his 72 years.

With this new found stride and confidence, McCain and Palin have put the Democrats and its media pundits in a tailspin. The media and even Barack Obama aren’t sure who they should attack McCain or Palin.

This newly minted ticket has re-energized the Republican base which is destined to attract many undecided voters sitting on the fence.

This new McCain is bold and jazzy. He is ready to take on any challenge! He is serving the Democrats notice that he isn’t going down without a fight. To prove this point, he is now courting voters in Democrat states.

Before Palin happened, all thought the Democrats were a sure walk-in into the White House. But that has all been put on a massive halt. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden now have to really make the case why they should be given the keys to the White House as oppose to McCain-Palin.

From the look of things, it is going to be a long count down to Election Day, and it is any ones’ guess who will ultimately call 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home.

He made a mistake. A slip of the tongue.

If the above doesn't play, paste this linke in your browers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQqIpdBOg6I). If it still doesn't play then the liberal media and its pundits have removed it. Granted Obama made a mistake when he said "you’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you’re absolutely right that that has not come…”

So you see they all make mistakes_ Republicans and Democrats.

"and we are not saved..."

"Kamikaze Hillary"

How can the Democrats counter John McCain’s powerhouse ticket? Put Hillary Clinton on the road.

At this point in the race, Senator Hillary Clinton could be the kamikaze the Obama/Biden ticket need to put the smoke out of McCain’s scud missile. Yes, you read it right. Hillary Rodham Clinton could possible turn the tide for team Obama/Biden.
Since announcing Sarah Palin as his Vice President choice, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have all but been knocked off the front page of the news. The McCain/Palin missile has been moving through the airwaves faster than the speed of light. Good news, bad news _ as they say as long as you spell the name right _ has been ok with McCain/Palin.

Although the Democratic Convention did give Obama a nine point up tick in the polls, the Republicans have been enjoying a revitalization and energized party.
Enter Hillary Clinton. She and she along could draw the parallels between her and Palin. She can stand up and proclaim our lives are so vastly different. Plus while Palin has executive experience she does not posses the experience of Hillary who has been around power and served in elected office longer than Mrs. Palin. Not the media or other Democrats can do what Hillary can.

But will she? And why should she?

It is ironic the female candidate who was dissed by the media and its pundits, could possibly snatch the power from McCain if she stumps on the road for the Democrats and make it clear that Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton, who has a truck load of experience. Clinton could whip the voters into a frenzy, but would she?
Obama had the opportunity to put Hillary on the ticket but he in his wise judgment decided not to out of fear that he would be overshadowed by Hill and her husband Bill. If this was the sole reason he decided not to go with Hill, bad decision.

History always repeats itself. Look at what happened to Al Gore and John Kerry when they decided against using the Clintons when they ran for president.
Obama should think long and hard on his next steps.

Obama should consider the error in his judgment and immediately run to Hillary and say ready aim fire!

"Pit Bull In Lipstick"

What is the difference between a hockey mom and pit bull? The latter wears lipstick as says Sarah Palin during her historic acceptance speech as vice president for the Republican party.

In her acceptance speech which lasted approximately 45 minutes, Sarah Palin made a compelling case why she and John McCain should be he next occupants in the White House. For all those who thought she was light weight, think again. Not only can she bring home the bacon and fry it in a pan, but she can deliver a powerful punch.
For those questioning her position of being the mayor of a small town in Alaska she had this to say, “I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities.”

She continued and said that while John McCain’s opponent found time to write two memoirs in the senate, he never found time to author any bills. The same was said of Joe Biden, who has been in DC for 30 years and never wrote or passed any bills.
On her own record Palin said she has balanced her states budget, fought and cleaned up corruption and manage to spare the people of Alaska unnecessary tax hikes.

As for the media she said, “… I’ve learned quickly these last few days that, if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But — now, here’s a little newsflash. Here’s a little newsflash for those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion. I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this great country.”

"All Eyes On Sarah"

Enter stage right for Alaska Governor and now Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Palin will take the stage tonight at the Republican Convention in St. Paul, Minn. She will be carrying a major load on her shoulder. She will be giving the speech of her life and political career. Her speech will have to do two things: tell America who she is and what she believes. Secondly, and most important she will need to show America that she is ready to take the reigns if needed as McCain's second in command.

Palin has the power to make or break this race with what she says tonight in her acceptance speech. The question is will she be able to deliver?

"We Are Family"

Who ever thought the Democrats and their political pundits would be so afraid of John McCain. Way back when they were busy burying Hillary and Bill Clinton, John McCain was quietly deciding how to steal their thunder. And man did he ever. From no where McCain walluped the Obama/Biden ticket with a powerful hit when he chose Sarah Palin the Governor of Alaska as his running mate.

The Democrats and their media pundits are now trying to carefully and sloppily pick apart McCain's nominee. But they have no one to blame but themselves. Had the Democrats had the strength and fortitude they would have put Hillary Clinton on the ticket. Now they sit scratching their heads and wondering how an executive of the 49th state could upstage their own two Senators trying to get executive experience.

"A Bun In The Oven"

And baby makes six _ five children and one grandchild that is to the Palin clan.

Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin announced recently that her daughter, Bristol is with child. The seventeen-year-old plans to keep the baby and marry the father. This revelation comes only a few days after John McCain announced she would be his running mate.

While many will attack the Mrs. Palin and question her parenting skills, truth of the matter is life happens. You can be the best parent: clothe, feed and provide all of life’s lessons but at the end of the day it is the child who will have to make the right decisions.

Before critics jump on this and start to critique Palin's parenting skills and make suggestions that she should remain at home, first let us hear and understand the story and not pass judgment. It takes a lot of courage and strength to have such a private family matter put out there for all to comment.

Certainly the Palin family isn’t taking this family matter lightly, after all Bristol is in her second trimester. The family had to have had many conversations on next steps. This pregnancy will definitely change the daughter’s entire future. Make no doubt the daughter will be scrutinized and vilified.

We can only hope the daughter is as strong as the mother, who had the strength and fortitude to stand up against corruption in her state. She also unseated a long standing governor.

Furthermore, if Bristol and her baby’s father are deeply in love, then by all means they should marry. However the rush to get married simply because of a pregnancy or political expediency, aren’t valid reasons.

It would be nice if the Palin Family could deal with this private matter as a family. But with the limelight being on the possible first republican female vice president this will hardly happen.

What an interesting election year this promises to be.

I guess Sarah Palin is in fact like many of us after all.

"Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama In Storm's Path"

Three States Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama all watch and wait as Hurricane Gustav moves their direction. The storm which has been downgraded to a category 2 has brought torrential rain falls in the three states. Weather forcasters are predicting possible floods and tornadoes.

Some activities that had been scheduled to take place during the Republican Convention, which starts this week in Minnesota, have been pulled back.

During a visit in Mississippi Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, along with his running mate for vice president, Sarah Palin, announced that opening day speeches during the convention would be suspended. President George Bush and Vice President, Dick Cheney have both cancelled appearances because of the storm. Even Democratic President and Vice President candidates Barack Obama and Joseph Biden have scaled back planned campaigning.
